Garage Door Tune-Up
Halfway up, the door shudders. The sections seem to catch for a moment, the whole assembly shakes, then it carries on as if nothing happened. You have started holding your breath at that spot each time.
Garage Door Tune-Up
A torsion spring letting go sounds like something fell in the garage, and then the door refuses to lift. If that happened in Toronto today, we bring the matching spring, replace it as a pair when the door has two, check the cables and bearings beside it, and rebalance the door before we leave.
Garage door services
Residential and commercial customers in Toronto come to us for spring and cable replacement, off-track resets, opener diagnosis and replacement, remote and keypad programming, weatherstrip and seal work, balance adjustments, panel repair and new door installation. Each service is explained on its own page in plain language.

Garage Door Panel ReplacementAfter an overnight freeze the door stuck to the slab, the opener strained, and something gave.
Extension Spring ReplacementIt is the first hard frost of the year and the door on the old detached garage has stopped halfway, squealing at one pulley.
Garage Door Opener Diagnosis and RepairThe motor runs, the chain rattles along the rail, and the door does not move a millimetre.
Chain-Drive Opener RepairThe chain hangs in a loop under the rail and slaps against it on every cycle.
Smart Garage Controller SetupA contractor is coming to work in the garage on Thursday while you are away.
Sectional Garage Door ReplacementThe bottom section has absorbed years of moisture and road-salt residue.
Insulated Steel Garage Door InstallationYou want windows for natural light without turning the garage into a cold glass wall.
Commercial Sectional Door RepairThe loading-bay door rises with one side several centimetres lower than the other.
High-Lift Garage Door ConversionStorage racks were planned near the ceiling, but the existing tracks and centre-mounted opener divide the only practical zone.New Doors
Not every upgrade means a whole new door. New insulated sections, a high-lift track conversion for a taller vehicle, exterior hardware for a carriage-house look or a quieter drive system can each change how a garage works.

Repairs
Households notice the small changes first: a new noise, a slower close, a light showing under the bottom edge. Those observations are the starting point for most of the work in this group, and they are worth acting on.

Toronto
For homeowners in Toronto who like to understand the work, we explain the mechanics: how a torsion spring stores the weight of the door, why cables fray at the bottom bracket, what the photo-eyes are looking for. For those who just want it fixed, we fix it and keep the explanation short.

2021 census · what it means at the door
58%Older homes
About 58% of homes in Toronto were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.
Older garages tend to have lower headroom and narrower single openings, so replacement doors and openers are chosen to fit the space rather than the other way round. Measuring the header, side room and ceiling depth is the first step on every one of these visits.
23%
Single-detached houses make up about 23% of homes in Toronto (2021 Census).
In attached housing, a resident's remote or fob may open both their own door and a shared gate, and lost devices are a real security concern. We clear old codes from the operator, program replacements, and explain to management how to keep the access list current.

Garage Door Tune-Up
Halfway up, the door shudders. The sections seem to catch for a moment, the whole assembly shakes, then it carries on as if nothing happened. You have started holding your breath at that spot each time.
Garage Door Tune-UpTwo tests, once a month. With the door open, press close and wave a broom handle through the photo-eye beam near the floor: the door should stop and go back up. Next, set a 2x4 flat on the concrete in the middle of the opening and press close: the door must reverse when it meets the board. If it stops on the board without reversing, the down travel or force setting needs adjustment, and if it fails after that, book a visit.
Watch the door move. A cosmetic dent leaves the section flat at the joints, the door travelling without a catch, and the hinges and rollers seated normally. Signs that the damage goes further include a crease that reaches a joint or stile, a hinge screw that has pulled out, a roller sitting crooked in the track, a gap of daylight at a joint, or a shudder as that section reaches the track curve. Any of those calls for a proper assessment.
Three things. Spray the springs, pulley axles and hinges with a garage-door lubricant twice a year, which slows rust in an unheated garage. Keep the threshold clear of bins and packed snow so the door never stops short with the springs still pulling. And leave the opener's force setting where the technician put it, since a door that starts needing more push is a balance question rather than a dial to turn.
A fixed sequence of checks, done in order so nothing is assumed. Power at the receptacle. Each control tried on its own. The photo eyes and their indicator lights. The head unit's flash code, if it has one. The drive train from motor to trolley. Then the door itself, disconnected and lifted by hand to test its balance. Only after that is a part named and, where it is a small one, replaced during the same visit.
Always, and after every adjustment, because changing tension, limits or force changes how the operator senses an obstruction. The door is closed onto a 38 mm block on the floor and must return to open on contact, then closed again while the low sensor beam is interrupted and must reverse the same way. If either test fails the settings are revisited until both pass, and you are shown the tests so you can repeat them monthly.
